Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Instructor Course

This course teaches you how to use an AED effectively. They are now becoming more and more popular in public areas such as shopping centres so it is a good skill to be able to use if so needed.

AED is well established as the only effective therapy for Cardiac Arrest due to Ventricular Fibrillation (VF) or pulse less Ventricular Tachycardia (VT). There has been a lot of research and study been done with regards to an AED and the results of which have been overwhelming.

It is the single most determinant of survival being the delay from collapse to the first shock. The chances of successful defibrillation however decline at a rate of 7-10% with each minute, so effective basic life support is also necessary to sustain a shock able rhythm.

We offer a half day course in the use and maintenance of an AED. This course can be added on to any First Aid and CPR course that we offer. It is a life skill that could be very valuable.

Course pre-requisite: Candidates must be a First Aid Trainer, Healthcare Professional, (Ambulance staff, Doctor or Nurse) or other appropriately qualified or experienced individual with a qualification.

Basic Life Support skills are not taught on the course, as such there is an expectation that these skills can be performed to demonstration quality. No certification will be issued to individuals who are unable to perform the necessary skills.
